Candycorn

candy corn

though you are not of my world

nor i yours—

i suspect our customs are not so different

under the skin

i suspect you know a little about being

candycorn painful

i guess you know a little about being

a two-bit King.

how ’bout that wind….and a haiku

Soooo, I dunno about where you guys are but man it has been windy here.

Drove to Maryland yesterday and they had “Strong Wind Advisories” posted on the interstate…which I fully understood the First time the wind tried to blow my little car right off the road.  I usually like a road trip but what a tense drive, I found myself gripping the steering wheel cause every time I relaxed a bit the wind would whip in and try to pull me into another lane! On one road in West Virginia we literally had to stop the car and get out and pull  a dead tree out of the road before we could continue!  Then when we got home I saw it had been just as windy here… trash cans knocked over, doormat gone…

a ferocious wind

blustered and bloviated-

his discontent known

Stand

Eye wouldn’t go in there

they say,

They say it’s creepy.

Red eye at dawn,

I stayed up and dreamed.

Summer nights and star jasmine,

the mown grass greeness of moonrise

and the purple grove after

This is battle and betrothal.

I promised to stand and to be true,

then there was the sound of grey green thunder

and I was almost weeping,

but the screams of my aching nights

were the only things keeping me from clawing

my skull from beneath my skin

and painting my fate with slippery warmth.

Cat

curled up on my chest

competing for space on my pillow

or nestled in an inconvenient spot

I wait to she where she will settle in for the night

I now belong to the cat and I smile as she purrs

plant a tree

plant a tree

one special just for me

one that has a word on every leaf!

even without my wandering muse

I’ll still have words to choose

and to use

happily

I’ll sit beneath my tree

with its’ inspiring canopy

branches full of adjectives, verbs, a crown of nouns!

just make sure that it is evergreen

and we will always have

poetry
