July

July,

and though the sun has gone

the night has not

fallen darkly

the stones beneath my feet

still radiate the warmth

they absorbed

from its bright rays

not

unlike

you

while your loves left

too soon

their love still shines

through you

its radiance bursts forth

in watercolored hues

and those lucky enough to see it,

are better for it

Your Loss

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
― Anatole France

paw-print-heart-leave

our furry babies

more family than mere  pets

leave paw prints on hearts

soft furry bodies

wet noses and wet kisses

comfort our spirits

the love that is shared

 true and unconditional

unwaveringly

their passing painful

even more than some humans

the void more complete

they live forever

when no longer by our sides

at home in our hearts

~Melanie Blackwell

Departing Sun

her departing Son

left no forwarding address

her wounded heart cried

oh, departing Sun

of her please take no recess

 warmth and light provide
