Paper Birds

I hope you enjoy this lovely poem of love, loss and healing from Holly. But how can you not with lines like, “I am the flush of peony”

House of Heart

I have unfolded us

like origami,

dissected our borders,

the shadowed corners

of secrets

I have forced into

the light to mourn

like small bones of

birds, somehow sacred.

I have renamed

us where every

memory is not an

ache beneath my ribs

and every  thought is not

an assault on the dead.

I am the flush of peony

the color of healing scars.

Never Change

Enjoy this lovely, nostalgic feast of imagery from Chris Nelson. Visit his site 🙂

chrisnelson61

He watched the shadows lengthen

Like an old man’s coat

Tails torn by the wind,

Stained by love and loss,

Gone the Alaskan Summer

He’d wished would never change,

When high-hung Suns like mirrors

Kissed each waking hour,

His child-eyes blindly clinging

Translucent lids now closed

Still see the dreamed of constants

Beneath the milky dew,

And as the shadows embrace the night,

A lover’s furtive tryst,

He feels the loss ripped from his skin

And draws his own coat tight.

daydreaming at night

I’ve not seen it all
this movie that weaves
in and out of close encounters

actors are not what they seem
on any kind of stage
whether supported on oak trestles
or razor thin wire

the money flows like milk and money
brewed and bottled on the black market
where trade secrets are available for sale
anywhere from one to a million bitcoin

sometimes I like to daydream
during the night
just to shake things up
excited to rehearse those parts
I’m least familiar with

Silent Hands

I’ve been spending a little time visiting old friends here on WordPress and I’m so glad to reacquaint myself with the vast and varied talent that lives here. I didn’t know how much I missed them all. Please read this truly touching poem from Paul F. Lenzi. Please visit his site 🙂

Poesy plus Polemics

hands Drawing by FoxAndTheCrow

in her anguish

loud darkness

no room for

the effort

of words

all she needs

is a touch

quiet fingers

to reach

underneath

her despair

take the fear

from her mind

hold her heart

in the palm

of unspoken

affection

one touch

of love’s hand

conveys more

compassion

than penstrokes

of poets

or blessings

of saints

silent hands

can catch

teardrops

lift spirits

if only

for moments

but moments

distinctly

profound

in their power

your truth

why are you wasting time?

scribbling your words in invisible ink?

like fat fingers

on steamed up mirrors

and foggy windows…

why would you let your truth

disappear

into

obscurity?

it needs to be read, heard & recognized

chisel your words in stone

etch them in glass

hell,

paint the town red with your truth

your voice, your words need to be translated in 24 languages

& written in braille

so even the blind

can see

your truth.

Forty-Five Revolutions per Minute by J Matthew Waters — My review

Hi All:)

I haven’t been doing much reading or writing of late…which I’m sure you can tell if you’ve popped by my blog… but I did manage to read a collection of poetry: Forty-Five Revolutions per Minute by J Matthew Waters.

I just put the following brief review on Amazon and thought I would share it here as well.

J Matthew Waters is a contemporary poet yet one can see that he must be occasionally haunted by the muses of poets past.  Whispers of  W.S. Burroughs and tinges of Kerouac mingle with his own voice to produce his third book, Forty-Five Revolutions per Minute.

Some personal favorites include already goneremedy, and these lines in particular

from say you’ll haunt me

“…your face is patterned
vertical lines channeling emotions
streaming from your eyes”

and from when september ends

“she slipped by like a new moon
looking for a place to hide…”

The fact that each poem is inspired by and/or named after a song provides a ready-made and diverse play list.  With titles like after the thrill is gone, I am the egg-man and saturday in the park it was hard for this reader not to hear the song in question even without them playing.  Just as varied are the topics Waters writes about; from sadness to hope, exploration to nostalgia and even war and peace.

I do hope you will check this collection out and I will leave you as Waters left me with this closing poem in its entirety.

your poem

i burned your image
in my mind
like charcoal lead
on cottony white paper
i painted your eyes
on canvas
like i had known them
my entire life
i drew your heart
closer to mine
beating rhythmically
as if we were one

AVAILABLE NOW:

➤ Both kindle and paperback versions are available on  AMAZON

OH and I should mention that you may know John from his blog jdubqca , if not head on over (after you finish here of course) 🙂

angry

Billy was an angry man

he hated his own life

but instead of making changes

he took it out on his children & his wife

his hands, his belt, a wooden spoon;

anything in reach would do

and after every vicious assault

he made sure they knew it was their fault

Why doesn’t she LEAVE?!

Another submission I wrote for Artists4Peace

she is afraid

of him

of being without him

of what he might do to himself

that he might find her (he has promised to hunt her down)

of what he might do to her (he has promised to kill her if she left)

she is afraid

that she can’t do any better

that no one else will love her

that she can’t make it on her own

that she can’t provide for her kids

that this is what she deserves

and anyway you don’t understand…

he isn’t always like this

he doesn’t mean to hurt her

he is a good provider

he is a good father…he hasn’t hit the kids (yet)

he loves her

and anyway you don’t understand…

she doesn’t know anything else

this is just how it is

it has always been like this

she grew up watching her mom live this way

it’s in her DNA to stay
