Undoing (with audio)

Black

on grey

on twilight,

the purple dusk

and bruised toenail

sliver of moon.

The trees

are dark beasts

on the horizon

and I rode- I strode,

on my own two-feet

to the gallows,

the sad-sweet moment

of my undoing

its not magic

but something else

altogether—

Like a first smile,

like a newly found element.

Something else,

yes, something else entirely.

There is a face in the moon,

a skull,

a dry, dead grinning thing

and it is this,

it is always this

I return to.

The Dangling Conversation

Since I stole used a few words from this song as the title of my upcoming post

(currently editing as i went off on a bit of a rant)

… it has been stuck in my head so I’m posting it for you all to enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Lyrics are posted below. Beautiful poetry!

The Dangling Conversation by Simon & Garfunkel

It’s a still life watercolor
Of a now-late afternoon
As the sun shines through the curtain lace
And shadows wash the room
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference, like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs
The borders of our lives
And you read your Emily Dickinson
And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with book markers
That measure what we’ve lost
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm
Couplets out of rhyme
In syncopated time (in syncopated time)
And the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs
Are the borders of our lives
Yes, we speak of things that matter
With words that must be said
“Can analysis be worthwhile?”
“Is the theater really dead?”
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow, I cannot feel your hand
You’re a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs
In the borders of our lives

Carry

The writing prompt at Mindlovemisery’s Menagerieย was …”This week think about what meaning/s you can come up with for the word โ€œcarryโ€. We carry all sorts of things in a multitude of ways. Luggage, a load, groceries, a team member, a loved one when they are unwell and need us to carry them from one spot to another. Let your imagination guide you and have fun.”

So normally I would just write something….BUT

The first thing that popped in my head was this poem..so I went looking and actually found it being read by the poet himself!

This song also popped into my head because I always think of it in relation to my best friend. (NOTE: Love the song but this video doesn’t work for me with it..LOL BUT it is the official video so….)

And because this is a WRITING prompt…here is my contribution

Always

I did not carry you in my womb

nay, you are not fromย me

yet you are of me

let my love be motherโ€™s milk to you

take the offered nourishment

and as it strengthens you

it strengthens me

โ‹…

love and acceptance

always

listen

honeysuckle_purple

the night sky

is alive

with lavender laughter

and it breathes a tale

of love

ever after

ย if you listen hard enough

-it will tell it

โˆž

โˆž

Your smile

tastes

of red wine and jelly

your eyes

light a fire

in the pit of my belly

but you aren’t listening

-no matter how loud Iย yell it

โˆž

โˆž

now the wind

is tinged

with honeysuckle and sadness

and this

might sound

like madness

but if you listen hard enough

-you can smell it
