my pain multiplies

memories divide me

is my innateness a welcome addition?

does my otherness subtract from my intrinsic value?

my family was f*ucked up to the 9th power

is my father the square root?

do you know, what is the sum of me?

  1. Fantastic poem. You build up to the big question that might never be answered for any of us.

  3. Amazing poem. Very mathematical.

  4. A very clever poem, Melanie. I don’t think there is an answer to this equation; so many things make up the sum of who we are, including fucked up family dynamics. I resonate with this, and I find it evocative in the imagery and as one who loathes math, I feel like I can finally understand it in this piece. If they did math problems like this, I think more people would pass math exams.

  5. We are all, results, of the mathemarical, meanings, of, others, unfortunately..
