“I’d trade my last breath for you, for your happiness.”
It was the ninth lie he’d told me today
and I was still on my second cup of coffee
But I wasn’t mad
not at him
He probably even believed it himself
at least in the moment
He always meant well
and his sweet lies
had replaced the sugar and cream
in my coffee

The last three lines are particularly poignant and evocative. A great piece.
Thank you, Daniel!
Excellent poem. Beautifully stated and I love that she’s aware that he’s lying.
Thank you, lovely lady!
