I had my fill of lazy afternoons
of forbidden fruit
plucked off the poisened vine
♦
I listened to the devil softly croon
songs uncouth
sending shivers down my spine
♦
I lost my innocence too soon
like a milk tooth
in sweet persimmon wine
♦
I’ll dig your grave with teaspoons
as your half truths
dug mine

Brilliant. I just love it.
Thank you kindly!
Wow, this is amazing, I adore the second part .
Thank you so much Oloriel. Your kind words means so much to me.
This is really nice stuff
Thank you!
Wonderful Melanie! persimmon wine I’ve never had but I can imagine it is so very sweet! I love this all the way around! 🙂
Thank you for taking time to read and comment. My uncle used to make persimmon wine when i was little… I remember getting to taste it when i was around 12 or 13…and it was sickly sweet.
I’ll dig your grave with teaspoons…powerful, determined, incredible words. So strong and wonderful. The person saying these words will never be held back. Beautiful poem Melanie. Just fabulous.
Funny that you single that line out… that is how it started…that thought “I’ll dig your grave with teaspoons” the rest formed around that.
Thank you
Incredible, Melanie!!!!
Thank you dear Skye 🙂
Wow! Beautifully written, Melanie!
Thank you so much. 🙂
so much emotion bubbling just beneath the surface, yet contained with such poignant imagery and restraint. i think this is one of my favorites of yours Melanie. ty for sharing your truth.
Thank you so much. What a wonderful compliment 🙂
how can words be so bitter sweet!!
As is life me thinks 🙂
This was such a powerful read I had to take a couple of hours to think before commenting. I hope it’s alright to be a bit chaotic. After all chaos has been first, then the forbidden fruit… Which led me to the persimmon-permission siblings and I suppose both these words could be responsible for the imagery and tone… There is time for both, and time is crucial in the third stanza. Time is also responsible for the choice of a weapon, the reaction and final impact. I’m not sure if that makes any sense, but ever since we’ve ‘known’ each other your writing has begun to influence me more, for which I thank you.
Wow, you truly flatter me. First, to think my words resonated so strongly to cause hours of pause and contemplation is wonderful in itself. And I love that you delved so deeply into my words….and you do indeed make sense. Thank you for seeing me.
And as far as your last statement, I don’t even know what to say. I’m humbled and grateful.

wowzers – as you can see, I am getting caught up on my reading (backwards in dates). i always enjoy your work – you have this incredible ability to put what another’s heart is feeling – into words. We, as a reader, can feel your heart jump out at us – right off the screen, but we can also FEEL our own heart. This is extraordinary. xx
Thank you so much for spending so much time on my page…I appreciate all your thoughtful comments.
