Who am I?
What is my name?
I am the one who won’t play your game
I cannot identify
with you who want a free supply
I will not be leeched upon
Pay your own way
Who are you…
tell me your name
They ask with a grin
to hide their shame
I’m the one who loves my life
I will never sacrifice
anything I value
for your personal gain.
~Melanie Blackwell- (A little Ode to Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand)
I am actually reading that book now! It is taking me a long time because my vision isn’t good and I can’t read for long periods anymore “cries” This is perfect Melanie absolutely perfect =)
Yay! Thank you π
one of my favorite books. I know Ayn Rand is a love or hate for most people…but I loved her work long before Tea Party politics.
The Fountainhead is also excellent.
I will have to read it, I am enjoying Atlas Shrugged I am on page 600 and something I think lol
been a while since i read that…ha…rand is pretty cool, though you are right people either love or hate her…the fountainhead is very good….i like the strength in your verse…to stand up…

Good! Then my job is done (for the moment). Truly if i can make anyone stop and think with my words that is success to me π
“I cannot identify
with you who want a free supply
I will not be leeched upon
Pay your own way” – very empowering, I am most glad I read this.
I’m glad as well! Thank you for reading and commenting π
Nice one and a nod to Atlas as well. I sold a copy of that book to the son of an older woman who came into our bookstore (feminist bookstore), and demanded that he read it. He was in his late 30s and promised he would read it. She nodded and smiled at meβ¦we shared a secret in that moment. Wonderful poem.
I’m glad you like it…
As cliche as it sounds….that book changed my life.
