Wintering this body.
I wear my seperateness
like a shield from fantasy
and the fear of cold.
I know by now
one santa claus
who comes with a strange,
black gift for each of us.
I know love is real
but a fugitive from law.
That freedom’s breath is raw
and the world we think round
is shapeless after all.
~ Melanie Blackwell
Oh wow I love it Melanie, so meaningful, so gorgeously written and expressed. You have said so much in so few lines
Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. This is one of my favorites that I’v written. I wish I were a musician too sometimes because I always thought this should be lyrics.
It would be beautiful =) Do you know any musicians? I just know a heavy metal guy and he likes some of my more aggressive political pieces
Not anymore…
i wasn’t able to play the recording

Great thoughts in this….”I know love is real but a fugitive from law.” Love that line!
Thank you I love that line too. I really appreciate you taking time to read and comment. π

Thank you!
Loved your Audio. Nice to listen to the writer. Loved WINTERING
Thank you Leo π
raises goosebumps
Wow, thank you so much π
I got to hear your voice!!! The poem is wonderful. Hearing you read it made a huge difference in understanding it. Your intonation actually made the poem more gentle and lighter than when I read it. I love this idea. Please read more of your work. Wonderful poem The last two lines are prophetic…I believe things really are shapeless and we just keep reforming everything everyday..only to have it go back to it’s free form when we aren’t paying attention:) Love is real but a fugitive from the law…sigh. Excellent poem/post.
I’m glad you liked it so much. Thank you for your wonderful feedback…guess I’ll be doing more recordings π
The words are wonderful, and to hear you read them made it all the more special! Well done!! **applause**
::blushing:: and ::curtsy-ing:: LOL Thank you
**That freedomβs breath is raw

Btw, At first I thought “Wintering” was the book about Plath.
Thank you for taking time to read and comment. Glad you liked it π And I’m ok with you thinking of Plath as I love her π
Beautiful poem, Melanie! And I enjoyed listening to you recite it.
Thank you Miranda π
Wow, Melanie, wow! I have no idea why you were nervous about audio – your voice is wonderful and it breathes life into this poem and gives it depth. I definitely want to hear more audio!:)
And, just like everyone else, I adore those last lines…
“I know love is real
but a fugitive from law.
That freedomβs breath is raw
and the world we think round
is shapeless after all.”
I’m so glad you liked it! I do not like the sound of my own voice recorded BUT I’ve had favorable comments so guess I’ll keep at it π
